When you look around at all you’ve been given
And find few talents to use in your hand,
Yet you get to work to make the most living
And work ‘til your feet are too tired to stand;
When you look and look for the harvest to reap
And you find there is no reward to see,
Yet you press on, a good steward of your keep
Knowing the prize lies in eternity;
When you pour all your heart out for others’ sake,
Yet expect nothing from them in return;
When you grow weak and weary without a break,
Yet joyfully smile without concern;
When you weep when others weep, holding them tight,
Comforting them with tears from dusk ‘til dawn;
Yet know to pick them up with a laugh so bright
That will give them the courage to keep on;
When all hope for the future you hoped seems gone;
When someone takes the place you wished to see;
Yet you put your head down in thanks and live on
Knowing you are where you are meant to be;
When the voice of God is too silent to hear
And you know not the proper step to take,
Yet you leap in faith even when it’s unclear
Content to carry on with your small stake;
When you can submit all you have, all you are,
To the One who made the heavens and earth;
When you can give it all up, ever so far—
All peace, pleasure, fortune, friends, and all worth;
Then at last thanks to the blood of Jesus Christ
Shall you be called faithful, His voice so sweet,
To you given a heavenly crown of life,
And—which is more—you’ll cast it at His feet!
